A Hamptons Weekend Getaway: Sag Harbor in the Fall
There is a very specific kind of quiet that settles over Sag Harbor In the Fall. The crowds have gone and the town goes back to being what it really is. We came for a family birthday weekend, and we stayed for everything else.
Faraway has always understood the assignment. The Sag Harbor property earned a 2026 Michelin Key this fall, and one look at the grounds tells you exactly why. Cornstalks at the door, hydrangeas still going strong, white Adirondack chairs waiting out back. It feels less like a hotel and more like the very best version of a weekend house.

We arrived with enough daylight to wander and shop for a bit. Down to the marina first, where the boats sat perfectly still under a soft gray sky, the water like glass.

Then back through town, where I stopped into the Goop boutique that had the fall knits exactly right. A blush cardigan, a striped shirtdress, a long coat in the prettiest shade of mauve. I took note.

The reason for the trip: my father's 75th birthday, celebrated properly at a long family table at Tutto il Giorno. Family-style prix fixe, everyone together, the Sag Harbor room glowing. Some weekends are about the itinerary. This one was about the table.

Saturday afternoon belonged to Wölffer Estate Vineyard in Sagaponack. Three o'clock, the vines, that wide-open Long Island sky. Sunday morning, Swifty's at The Hedges Inn. The menu alone is worth the trip: deep blue hydrangeas on black, the name in pink script. That is the kind of detail that tells you everything about a room before you ever sit down.
