Your Hair Needs a Fall Reset, Too

We reset our wardrobes, switch up our skincare and trade summer beauty products for richer fall formulas but what about our hair? These past few gorgeous months of Summer we had sun exposure, humidity, heat styling, sweat, tight ponytails and layers of product on our scalp which means our strands may be ready for a reset, too. As the seasons change, it’s not unusual to notice a little more hair in your brush or shower drain too.

According to board-certified dermatologist and hair-loss expert Dr. Chesahna Kindred, some seasonal shedding can happen, but it’s important to know when shedding goes beyond a normal cycle.“Fall hair” can also be the result of months of summer habits catching up with us. Heat, UV exposure and product buildup can contribute to dryness, breakage and an unhappy scalp.

One of the biggest beauty shifts happening right now is the idea that scalp care is skincare. A healthy scalp creates the foundation for healthier-looking hair, which is why cleansing, caring for and paying attention to the scalp should be part of our routine.

Fall is also a good time to take a deeper approach to hair health. Rather than reaching for one miracle product, think about how topical treatments, nutrition and everyday hair habits can work together. Dr. Kindred also talks about the growing movement toward proactive hair health, including approaches such as Xtressé, which addresses hair care from both the inside and outside with products including its FR Concentrate Serum, a topical scalp treatment, and Hair Growth Gummies, a biotin-free daily supplement.

Think of September as a fresh start for your hair:

Cleanse: Remove summer product and scalp buildup.

Nourish: Give dry strands extra hydration and care.

Protect: Be mindful of heat styling and tight hairstyles.

Focus on the scalp: Healthy hair starts at the root.

Attention to: shedding or thinning feels sudden, excessive or persistent, talk to a dermatologist rather than trying to diagnose it yourself.
